Pulan : Umayanggan - unsettled or weepy

“We were fisher folk with our own distinct calendar, which we rendered by phases of the new moon. Our word for moon is pulan. Interestingly, this also means: to watch protectively over, like mother to child. This hints to a verity of our old ways: we organized our lives along deeply matrilineal lines. Clans, genealogies, and land tenure were all things held in the protective forearms of our women.”

Just Left of the Setting Sun by Julian Aguon
